ELL Certification

SESEC believes that in order to close the opportunity gap we need to focus on ELL students and students of color. Strategies proven to work with these students have to be employed. We must have effective, stable, culturally-competent staff that:

  • are trained in ELL best practices;
  • have in-depth and ongoing cultural competency trainings; and
  • are stable in their positions at schools from year to year.

In February 2013, SESEC’s Educator Advisory Committee met with Veronica Gallardo, head of the ELL department in the Seattle School District. She presented new data about ELL performance in SE Seattle.
